Visiting Fischersund in Iceland opened my mind to the narrative possibilities of fragrance. While I’ll never be a perfumer, as a writer I’m now always thinking about the sensory landscape of my stories. Útilykt simply smells like outside—what lingers on your coat after being out in the cold and the wind has brought the sea to meet you—with some bergamot to sweeten it.
